This week at Andrew Sibbald students experienced many different learning experiences connected to Remembrance day.
Some of our cross-curricular learning intentions for the week were:
In literacy;
I can read at a steady comfortable pace.
I can listen and respond to a variety of fictional and informational texts that are read aloud.
I can make predictions prior to and while reading, viewing or listening to a text.
I can include sensory language to enhance ideas in creative writing.
I can use organizational tools to record or categorize information.
In Social Studies;
I can understand how communities are strengthened by their stories, traditions, and history.
I can identify the individuals or groups that contributed to the development of my community.
I can recognize that indigenous veterans helped protect Canada.
I can explain why it is important to remember and honour Indigenous veterans on Remembrance Day.
I can share how Indigenous veterans made a difference in our history and community.
In art:
I can create a piece of art that uses symbols, like poppies or wreaths, to show respect for remembrance day.
I can use colours and shapes in my artwork to show my ideas about peace and kindness.
I can explain my artwork and how it shows my feelings about Remembrance Day.
Personal Development:
I can reflect on what peace means to me and why it is important in our community.
I can think about to show respect and gratitude to people who help keep us safe.
I can take a moment of silence to show respect for those who have served Canada.
We look forward to seeing you all on Thursday November 14th!
