Happy Sunday evening 2nd grade crew families,

I hope you have all enjoyed this beautiful hot weather we had this week. The students have loved having extra learning time outside this week.

Some of our learning intentions for our week were in ELAL.

Students started working on comic strip writing this week.  Our learning intentions for that were:

  • I can think of a fun or interesting idea for my comic story.
  • I can plan the beginning, middle, and end of my comic.
  • I can decide what happens in each panel.
  • I can write speech bubbles and captions that match what's happening in the pictures.
  • I can use exciting of funny words to make my comic interesting.
  • I can add sound words like "BOOM" or "SPLASH" to make it interesting.
  • I can draw pictures that help tell my story.
  • I can use facial expression and actions in my drawings.
  • I can use capital letters and punctuation in my writing.
  • I can share my comic with a friend.

Another exciting thing we took part in this week was a LitCon session with Peter Brown our favourite author of The Wild Robot series. In our grade 2 classroom we have read both books and are half way through the 3rd series. Our learning intentions for this ELAL activity were:

  • I can listen to and read stories by Peter Brown.
  • I can notice the characters, setting, and what happens in the story.
  • I can write or draw about what I liked in The Wild Robot.
  • I can write or draw my own story about robots, animals, or the forest.
  • I can make connections between the story and my own experiences.
  • I can share how Roz the robot and the animals work together.
  • I can think about how the story shows caring for the land and nature.
  • I can ask questions about the story and about Peter Brown's ideas.
  • I can listen to others and share my own thoughts about the book.
  • I can join in discussions about how stories help us learn about the world.
