Good evening families,

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend enjoying the beautiful weather we had on Friday and Saturday!

This week at school the students were busy learning about measurement in math (and we even got outside to do our learning). Our learning intentions for this were:

  • I can measure objects using non-standard tools like cubes, paperclips, and blocks.
  • I can measure objects using standard tools like rulers and metre sticks.
  • I can explain why standard units like centimetres and metres are important.
  • I can measure the length and height of objects in centimetres.
  • I can measure longer distances using metres.
  • I can choose the best unit (centimetres or metres) for what I am measuring.
Estimating
  • I can estimate the length of an object before measuring it.
  • I can compare objects to decide which is longer, shorter, or the same length.
  • I can explain the difference between an estimate and exact measurement.
Problem Solving
  • I can solve problems by measuring objects and comparing their lengths.
  • I can explain my thinking when I choose a tool or unit for measuring.

See you all tomorrow morning friends!

Ms. Craik
