Happy New Year 2nd grade crew families and welcome back to school!

We have had a wonderful first full week together. Thank you to the families who have returned your alien in-line skating forms already, we are very much looking forward to this experience for gym!

A highlight of our learning this week was in literacy where we wrote about 'What we think snowmen do at night' our learning intentions for this were:

Generating Ideas and Organizing Written Messages

  • I can brainstorm creative ideas about what snowmen do at night.
  • I can organize my sentences in a logical order to describe a fun story about snowmen.
  • I can use a beginning, middle, and end to structure my writing about snowmen’s nighttime adventures.

Sentence Writing and Expression

  • I can write sentences with a clear idea, such as describing how snowmen might ice skate or have snowball fights at night.
  • I can use descriptive words to make my story about snowmen interesting, like "sparkling," "frosty," or "whirling."
  • I can include dialogue between snowmen in my story using quotation marks.

Enhancing Written Messages

  • I can add pictures to my story to show what the snowmen are doing.
  • I can label my illustrations to help explain my writing about snowmen.
  • I can use sound words like "swish," "thud," or "crunch" to make my writing exciting.

Editing and Conventions

  • I can capitalize the first word of each sentence and the names of snowmen, like "Frosty."
  • I can end my sentences with correct punctuation, like a period, question mark, or exclamation mark.
  • I can use spelling patterns I know to write words like "snow," "night," and "play."
  • I can check my writing with an editing checklist to make sure my sentences make sense.

Sharing and Presenting Writing

  • I can share my snowman story with my classmates by reading it aloud.
  • I can listen to feedback about my writing and use it to make my story even better.

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend with your families, see you all on Monday morning!

Ms. Craik
