Happy Sunday 2nd grade crew families, I hope you all have had a wonderful weekend together! We had a beautiful walking field trip to Fish Creek park on Friday and got to experience seeing Fish Creek park through a Winter lens this time, it was a gorgeous day.
Here are some of the highlights that we have been working on in literacy over the last couple of weeks in class.
ELA learning intentions:
I can create written messages that align with a variety of purposes and audiences by:
- focusing and liming the number of details in a sentence
- organizing sentences in a logical sequence
- editing written work for spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar
- incorporating images to enhance messages
Students wrote about Winter. Students were given the choice to write a fiction story or a non-fiction story. During this process students were introduced to a graphic organizer called an idea web, this tool was used to help brainstorm or plan out their ideas first. Then students were given the opportunity to sit with a partner and share their ideas. Students were also encouraged to "steal and share" ideas from their partners to help make their writing better. The "stolen" ideas were recorded in a different colour. Students then used their idea web to create their Winter stories. After the story writing process was done, students were then given an opportunity to self assess their writing (please see diagram below) and then also received peer feedback after reading aloud their writing during sharing circle.
