What an AMAZING week we had this week! A jam packed week full of fun in the snow, a field trip to TELUS SPARK and some hands on exciting learning happening in Grade 2!

Our learning intentions in Science this week were;

Exploring the Properties of Light:

  • I can explain how light helps us see things around us
  • I can investigate how light travels in straight lines and can be blocked to make shadows
  • I can explore how light reflects off mirrors or shiny objects
  • I can observe and describe how different materials let light pass through (transparent), block light (opaque) or allow some light through (translucent).
Investigating Light in Nature and Daily Life:

  • I can explore how the sun gives us light and affects the Earth.
  • I can describe how light changes during the day, like sunrise and sunrise and sunset.
  • I can explain how we use light to help us in daily life, like in flashlights, lamps, or traffic lights.
Conducting Experiments with Light;
  • I can ask questions about light and plan experiments to answer them.
  • I can use tools like flashlights, glow sticks, mirrors, and objects to test how light behaves.
  • I can predict and test how shadows change when the position of the light source changes.

"My favourite part of TELUS spark was going on the nail bed, because it tricked me I thought it would hurt and it didn't and I was surprised." Halle

"I liked when we into the classroom and we put on the special glasses and we looked up and I was so surprised to see that everything was rainbow coloured." Walker

"I liked using the lazer's because we had to do an obstacle course and it was hard to get it to touch the star. We had to work together." Norah

"Scientists need to be prepared for their experiments. They need to stay safe, and not get hurt. Sometimes the potions or mixes can spill on them. Safety goggles protect your eyes, if you hurt your eyes then you can't see things like "the beautiful sunset, snowflakes falling." Grade 2

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy the snow! See you Monday friends.
