Another busy week for our Grade 2's including our first blue days of the season. We have also been busy preparing for The Magic of a Winter's Yet upcoming concert. A huge thank you to the families who have already donated items to go to The Mustard Seed, we are so lucky to have so many families who are able to help out! Some of our learning intentions this week were focused around wellness. This aligns with the curriculum's emphasis on Kindness, collaboration and empathy, building awareness of community needs while fostering student leadership. Students focused on; Personal Development. I can show kindness by helping people who need extra support in my community. I can talk about how helping others makes me feel good. Social Responsibility. What an AMAZING week we had this week! A jam packed week full of fun in the snow, a field trip to TELUS SPARK and some hands on exciting learning happening in Grade 2! Our learning intentions in Science this week were; Exploring the Properties of Light: I can explain how light helps us see things around us I can investigate how light travels in straight lines and can be blocked to make shadows I can explore how light reflects off mirrors or shiny objects I can observe and describe how different materials let light pass through (transparent), block light (opaque) or allow some light through (translucent). Investigating Light in Nature and Daily Life: I can explore how the sun gives us light and affects the Earth. I can describe how light changes during the day, like sunrise and sunrise and sunset. I can explain how we use light to help us in daily life, like in flashlights, lamps, or traffic lights. Conducting Experiments with Light; I can ask questions about light and plan experiments ...

 Happy Sunday Grade 2 Families, What a busy short day and half that was.  It was great to see the kiddos, I sure did miss them! Our learning intentions we focused on was in Math were: I can recall and apply addition number facts, with addends to 10, and related subtraction number facts. I can solve addition and subtraction word problems using numbers up to 100. I can use pictures, objects, or a number line to solve addition and subtraction problems. I can check my answer to make sure it makes sense in the word problem. I can explain how I got my answer using pictures, words or numbers. Grade 2 students have been working hard at learning about addition and subtraction. We know that being able to recall our basic addition and subtraction facts helps us as we move forward to solve bigger problems.  In school, we incorporate practicing our basic facts in lots of different ways!
