What an amazing short but busy week we had in Grade 2. Firstly thank you to all the families for their generous donations to our Terry Fox event at Andrew Sibbald we are so lucky here to have so many amazing families in our community!

In grade two we continue to work on our literacy skills through, UFLI (reviewing short vowels), journal entries, daily reading activities and read alouds. In math we are just wrapping up our patterns unit and look forward to moving onto number quantity to 1000. In social studies, we started our community unit. In Science we are moving into Energy (Light and Sound).

One of our focuses we had this week was around Terry fox and goal setting. By integrating the story of Terry Fox into these curriculum areas, students not only learned about a Canadian hero but also got to reflect on important values such as; Perseverance- overcoming challenges even when they seem insurmountable. Hope- believing in a better future and working toward it. Community-recognizing how individuals can come together for a common cause.

Here are some of this weeks highlights and learning intentions;

Social Studies

I can identify and develop effective communication skills for expressing needs, wants and feelings. (Discussions on how Terry Fox communicated his goals and his determination to raise awareness for caner research).

I can learn about significant individuals in Canadian history who have shaped their communities (Community in the Past).

Physical Education and Wellness

I can participate in sustained physical activity to enhance fitness.

I can set a personal goal for how far I want to run during the run.

I can talk about who Terry Fox is and why we are running for him.

Art (Creating Art)

I can use different materials to make art (watercolour pencils, pencil crayons, sharpies and pencils).

I can create art that shows objects or people.

I can make art from my imagination.

I can use elements of art (lines, shapes and patterns).

We hope you all have had a lovely fall weekend with your families. I look forward to seeing you on Monday morning friends!
