Happy Sunday Grade 2 families,

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend with your families. It was so lovely to connect with you during our open house and our meet the teacher night!

Reminder to families that tomorrow is picture day, pictures for grade 2 will be earlier in the morning!

Important dates:

September 23rd - K-5 picture day

September 26th - Observance of Orange Shirt Day & National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (please wear orange if possible)

September 27th - Professional Learning Day (No school for students)

September 30th -National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (no school for staff and students)

October 4th - Terry Fox Run

This week at school students had their second time participating in our school Maker Space with all 3 grade two classrooms on Friday. This week the students were given the task to choose materials from the loose parts lab or from materials that were placed all over the learning commons (lego, blocks, magazines etc). Students were then asked to plan and design a landscape and then think of something their maker space Yets can't do yet and create it! (Ex. Our seashell yets can't swim yet).

The learning intentions we focused on for this task were:

1. Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking

  • I can think of new ways to solve a problem using tools and materials.
  • I can ask questions.
  • I can try different ideas and choose the best one to build or create.
  • I can test my creation to see if it works, and fix it if needed.

2. Creativity and Design

  • I can use my imagination to design and make something new.
  • I can choose the right materials for my project and explain why I picked them.
  • I can improve my design based on feedback from others.

3. Collaboration and Communication

  • I can work with others to build something together.
  • I can share my ideas and listen to the ideas of my classmates.
  • I can ask for help when I need it and help others when they ask.
  • I can explain how my project works to my classmates or teacher.

"This is a landscape there is a mama turkey, she has to cross this bridge to get to her egg in her house. It will be a little hard because she is small and the land is humongous but she will get to her egg, just not YET!". Jill and Liesel

We were super excited to have seen the mural finally come to LIFE in our gymnasium. Good evening families I hope this weekend has been wonderful for you all. Wishing all the Mom's a very happy Mother's day, I hope you found some time this weekend to enjoy some time for you! Thank you again to all the volunteers who were able to join us this week at the Zoo. The students had an amazing day! Our highlights for our week together was our field trip. Happy Sunday families, I hope you had a good weekend together, even with the snow that we had on Saturday! We had a busy week in grade 2 this week. Huge thank you again to the parents who were able to join us on our third walking trip to Fish Creek it sure was a beautiful morning. A highlight of our week was Fish Creek, our learning intentions for this were: I can: Discuss ways to respect plants and animals while interacting in various environments.
